Rasland Hunting Safaris Namibia

Rasland Hunting Safaris ethos in Namibia is focused on hunting in huge, open and largely un-fenced areas available in most parts of Namibia in different conservancies. One of the biggest draw cards is our mobility in that we are able to hunt very remote areas that other operators avoid and therefore we have access to wonderful, un-hunted territories. The largely German speaking operators tend to hunt from their farm houses and only have camps in Caprivi where there has been a lot of overhunting. They seldom hunt outside their home areas. Rasland’s mobility also allows us to follow the game as the weather conditions dictate (over large areas).

With the mobile tented camp, that will be fully equipped, the hunting party can be based in any area of a conservancy. The camp will be very comfortable and I am sure will look amazing when it is set up with good lighting, great crockery, glassware, decanters and cutlery. The camp will be also be catered for by a very competent chef.

I am in partnership with Rassie Erasmus, who is the Outfitter from Parys, South Africa. We now have 13 exclusive hunting conservancies in Namibia. These areas offer some of the best Leopard and Lion hunting opportunities as well as problem animal and plains game hunting. They range in size from roughly 100,000 to 1.2 million acres. We have one area that has a lodge with a fenced area of 15,000 acres connected to a conservancy of just under 300,000 acres. The map below shows our current hunting concessions with the dark green area “P” being the Etosha National Park.

This map shows the distribution of conservancies in Namibia:

Most of the conservancy leases were up for renewal in 2020. Our outfitter Rassie Erasmus has already signed contracts with the following conservancies:

4. Torra
18. Otimboyo
19. Uukwaluudhi
30. Gaingu
35. Sheya Shuushona
48. Ohungu
73. Lipumbu ya Tshilongo
47. Kunene
21. Okagundumba
28. Ozondundu
54. Otjambangu
70. Ombujokanguindi
78. Otjakondavirongo

Uukwaluudhi Conservancy (No. 19) is located in the north-west of Namibia close to the northern boundary of the world renowned Ethosha National Park. The conservancy is approximately 100,000ha (247,000 acres). There is a small area between Uukwaluudhi conservancy and Sheya Shuushona Conservancy, No. 35 on the map. Recently the area between Uukwaluudhi and Sheya Shuushona has been allocated to Uukhwaluudhi Conservancy, enlarging Uukwaluudhi to 120,000 ha (296,000 acres).

With Sheya Shuushona, RAV has an area of approximately 14,531 km², equal to 1,453,100 ha (3,589,157 acres) in the north.

With Gaingu (Spitskoppe) in the south, an additional 7,020 km² (702,000 ha / 1,733,949 acres) will be added to their hunting areas.

The animals hunted on these conservancies are mainly Elephant, Lion, Leopard, Hyena and Crocodile. Besides Gemsbok, Kudu, Springbok and Zebra, other plains game species are generally limited. However, Black face Impala and Damara Dik-Dik, which can only be hunted in Namibia are both available in select areas.

Elephants will be allocated on an annual basis. The advantage of having a large area to hunt will be that RAV will have many PAC animals available each year.  Several lion, leopard, elephant and crocodile can be hunted on a PAC permit which are exportable trophies. As soon as someone is registered to hunt a Problem Animal in Namibia, a Management Permit is converted to an exportable, hunting permit.

Most of these conservancies are a minimum of 100,000 acres with some as big as 1.2 million acres, each with only one Leopard tag available/annum. As many of these conservancies are in clusters, more than one conservancy can be baited and hunted from a centrally located mobile camp. This also allows for more than one Leopard hunt to take place from the same camp at any one time. In some areas, local lodges can also be utilized as the hunting base camp.

Your PH

Rassie has employed a full-time, local PH in Namibia, Gert van der Walt. Gert has 21 years of safari hunting experience in Namibia. He has hunted plains game and Leopard extensively, with big game (Lion & Elephant) for the last 9 years. As a guide, he has worked for outfitters and done freelance hunting all over the country. He knows the game and the hunting areas in Namibia.

As a professional hunter, passionate about hunting, he aims to give the client the ultimate hunting experience and the excitement of hunting animals in Africa.

Gert has spent all winter, through this COVID pandemic, thoroughly scouting and policing all of their conservancy areas and liaising with local farmers that have been having issues with problem Lion and problem Elephant. Thus when we have a hunt booked in Namibia we will know which areas to focus the hunt on for the best chances of success.

Rassie has acquired 10 wireless operated trail cameras, that he can monitor from home, which will be set up in these conservancies.

Uukwaluudhi Safari Lodge

Our lodge is situated in Conservancy #19. We use it as a base to service our mobile tented camp in the field.

Approximately 6,000 ha / 14,800 acres of Uukwaluudhi Conservancy was game fenced and additional Plains game species were introduced into this area.
